PRAYER   Connection to the Source

Two prayers by Sister Joyce Rupp from Fragments of Your Ancient Name:  365 Daily Meditations

Naming God as BALM TO THE WEARY

                                                      Rabindranath Tagore

The soothing of your compassion
eases my heart’s tiredness
and touches the wounded places.
The ointment of your care
seeps into the worn-out muscles
of my overly extended schedule.
The salve of your understanding
revives my exhausted patience.
The gentle massage of your love
restores my depleted kindness.

Today:  I accept the Balm offered to me.

Naming God as MEDICINE OF DAWN

                                                           Macrina Wiederkehr

Awakening from the slumbering night
I gratefully open my entire being to you,
Receiving spiritual medication for my life,
Vitamins of grace for my soul’s journey.
Each morning as I enter into prayerfulness
I receive from your abundant medicine chest
Effective remedies for a lack of enthusiasm,
A renewed strength for the ability to love,
A clearer motivation for my daily occupation,
And an endless portion of healing grace.

Today:  I remember to take my daily Medicine.
